yes, i sobbed so hard while writing and reading most of these <3

“By you, I am forever undone.”

“I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.” “Most of all, I hate you because I think of you. Often. It’s disgusting, and I can’t stop.” “If you’re the sickness, I suppose you can’t also be the cure.” “Maybe it isn’t the worst thing to want to be loved, even if you’re not. Even if it hurts. Maybe being human isn’t always being weak. Maybe it was the shame that was the problem.” “Perhaps we know each other in the future and you’re only remembering backwards.” “To be all right implies an impossible phase. We hope for mostly right on the best of our days.” “But hoping," he said, "is how the impossible can be possible after all.” “Over everything, I choose you” “We are but dust and stars.” “I could set this world on fire and call it rain.” “It's our nature. We destroy. It's the constant of our kind. No matter the color of blood, man will always fall.” “Perhaps all monsters were heroes in their own eyes.” “Perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone.” “I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God.” “Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives--or to find strength in a very long one.” “Nothing is all good or all bad,” she says. “Life is so much messier than that.” “My soul sees its equal in you.” “For nothing, not the sun, not the rain, not even the brightest star in the darkest sky, could begin to compare to the wonder of you.” “I love you, a thousand times over. And I will never apologize for it.” “Libraries were full of ideas—perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” “You could rattle the stars," she whispered. "You could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.” “Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you.” “Love, it never dies. It never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immortal.”

“You are not the world but you are everything that makes the world good.” “I choose you. And I’ll choose you over and over and over. Without a pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat.” “Because that’s what you and I do. Protect each other.” “Break my heart. Break it a thousand times. It was only ever yours to break.” “I suppose a fire that burns that bright isn’t meant to last.” “There’s a certain beauty in watching the world burn from the center of the flames.” “You make me want to live. Not survive, not exist; live.” “You might be my mate, but you remain your own person. You decide your fate, your choices. Not me. You chose yesterday. You choose every day. Forever.” “We are all stardust and stories.” “To the stars who listen and to the dreams that are answered.” “If I can’t find a good enough story, I make one.” “You burn bright enough to light an ocean on fire.” “come home. come home and shout at me. come home and fight at me. come home and break my heart if you must. just come home.” “Brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared. It means you go on even though you’re scared.” “The funny thing about armor is that it doesn’t just keep other people out. It keeps us in. We build it up around us, not realizing that we’re trapping ourselves.” “What is the point of being alive if you don’t at least try to do something remarkable?” “Just because you can’t experience everything doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience anything.” “She delighted in the smell of the ink, the rough feel of the paper between her fingers, the rustle of sweet pages, the shapes of letters before her eyes.” “It was impossible to feel alone in a room full of favorite books. I had the sense that they knew me personally, that they’d read me cover to cover as I’d read them.” “Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry.” “The books we love, they love us back. And just as we mark our places in the pages, those pages leave their marks on us.” “No one with a book is ever alone, even in the darkest moments.” “Libraries were full of ideas—perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” “Our private tastes in books showed a hint of our secret selves.” “Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we’re quoting.” “I’m done with those; regrets are an excuse for people who have failed.” “Why is straight the default? Everyone should have to declare one way or another, and it shouldn’t be this big awkward thing whether you’re straight, gay, bi, or whatever. I’m just saying.” "Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live." "That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt." "The universe is bigger than anything that can fit into your mind." "What if evil doesn't really exist? What if evil is something dreamed up by man, and there is nothing to struggle against except our own limitations? The constant battle between our will, our desires, and our choices?" "People never really died. They only went on to a better place, to wait a while for their loved ones to join them. And then once more they went back to the world, in the same way they had arrived the first time around." "But if I'm it, the last of my kind, the last page of human history, like hell I'm going to let the story end this way...Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield." “From now until the darkness claims us.” “Atque in pepetuum.” (Forever & ever)

“Fine, make me your villain.”

“i could recognize him by touch alone, by smell. i would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. i would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

"he is half of my soul, as the poets say."

“i’ll take care of you.”

“it’s rotten work.”

“not to me. not if it’s you.”

“i should have gone through life half awake if you'd had the decency to leave me alone. awake intellectually, yes, and emotionally in a way; but here-" he pointed with his pipe stem to his heart; and both smiled. "perhaps we woke up one another.”

“he’s more myself than i am. whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

“he was pointing at the moon, but i was looking at his hand.”

“i think you’re beautiful, the only beautiful person i’ve ever seen. i love your voice and everything to do with you, down to your clothes or the room you’re sitting in. i adore you.”

“his heart had lit never to to be quenched again, and at last one thing in him was real.”

“then you understand - without me saying more... i love you.”

“they cared for no one, they were outside humanity, and death, had it come, would only have continued their pursuit of a retreating horizon.” “Only the ship is made of books, its sails thousands of overlapping pages, and the sea it floats upon is dark black ink.”

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

“We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”

“Sometimes you just have to survive to fight another day.”

“Fear is a foreign land I shall never visit and a language that will never cross my tongue,”

“You may deny the fates, but they will not deny you.”

“There are far worse things to become than a monster.”

“Nights like this were meant to be shared, remembered, and talked about for years. Skies like this were meant to be kissed under.”

“We are born of the Salt, we live by the Salt, and to the Salt we return.”

“Come not as you are but as you wish to be seen.”

“All my life has been moonlight and the stars. I can smell the sunlight racing through your veins from across a room. Sunlight and heat and salt. Always the salt,”

“Regret." I smiled, though it wasn't funny. "Is that really a nightmare?"

"Can you think of anything more frightening?"

“I bet you could sometimes find all the mysteries of the universe in someone's hand.”

“Words were different when they lived inside of you.”

“Another secret of the universe: Sometimes pain was like a storm that came out of nowhere. The clearest summer could end in a downpour. Could end in lightning and thunder.”

“To be careful with people and with words was a rare and beautiful thing.”

“Maybe we just lived between hurting and healing.”

“I wanted to tell them that I'd never had a friend, not ever, not a real one. Until Dante. I wanted to tell them that I never knew that people like Dante existed in the world, people who looked at the stars, and knew the mysteries of water, and knew enough to know that birds belonged to the heavens and weren't meant to be shot down from their graceful flights by mean and stupid boys. I wanted to tell them that he had changed my life and that I would never be the same, not ever. And that somehow it felt like it was Dante who had saved my life and not the other way around. I wanted to tell them that he was the first human being aside from my mother who had ever made me want to talk about the things that scared me. I wanted to tell them so many things and yet I didn't have the words. So I just stupidly repeated myself. "Dante's my friend.”

“We all fight our own private wars.”

“And it seemed to me that Dante's face was a map of the world. A world without any darkness.

Wow, a world without darkness. How beautiful was that?”

“Sometimes, you do things and you do them not because you're thinking but because you're feeling. Because you're feeling too much. And you can't always control the things you do when you're feeling too much.”

“Why do we smile? Why do we laugh? Why do we feel alone? Why are we sad and confused? Why do we read poetry? Why do we cry when we see a painting? Why is there a riot in the heart when we love? Why do we feel shame? What is that thing in the pit of your stomach called desire?”

“Scars. A sign that you had been hurt. A sign that you had healed.”

“It was good to laugh. I wanted to laugh and laugh and laugh until I laughed myself into becoming someone else.”

“This is my problem. I want other people to tell me how they feel. But I'm not so sure I want to return the favor.”

“There is a defiance in being a dreamer”

“Nothing is all good or all bad,” she says. “Life is so much messier than that.”

“The old gods may be great, but they are neither kind nor merciful. They are fickle, unsteady as moonlight on water, or shadows in a storm. If you insist on calling them, take heed: be careful what you ask for, be willing to pay the price. And no matter how desperate or dire, never pray to the gods that answer after dark.”

“His heart has a draft. It lets in light. It lets in storms. It lets in everything.”

“But this is how you walk to the end of the world. This is how you live forever. Here is one day, and here is the next, and the next, and you take what you can, savor every stolen second, cling to every moment, until it’s gone.”

“You know,” she’d said, “they say people are like snowflakes, each one unique, but I think they’re more like skies. Some are cloudy, some are stormy, some are clear, but no two are ever quite the same.”

“But a life without art, without wonder, without beautiful things—she would go mad. She has gone mad.”

“I am stronger than your god and older than your devil. I am the darkness between stars, and the roots beneath the earth. I am promise, and potential, and when it comes to playing games, i divine the rules, I set the pieces, and I choose when to play.”

“The problem with knowledge, is its inexhaustible craving. the more of it you have, the less you feel you know”

“they were binary stars, trapped in each other’s gravitational field and easily diminished without the other’s opposing force”

“Every single one of us is missing something. We are all too powerful, too extraordinary, and don't you see it's because we're riddled with vacancies? we are empty and trying to fill, lighting ourselves on fire just to prove that we are normal—that we are ordinary. That we, like anything, can burn”

“We are the gods of our own universes, aren't we? Destructive ones.”

“We’re all starving, but not everyone is doing it correctly. Some people are taking too much, making themselves sick, and it kills them. The excess is poison; even food is a poison to someone who’s been deprived. Everything has the capacity to turn toxic. It’s easy, so fucking easy to die, so the ones who make themselves something are the same ones who learn to starve correctly.”

“The day you are not a fire,” he said, “is the day the earth will fall still for me.”

“She made devastation look like riches, like jewels.”

“What are we celebrating?”

“Our fragile mortality,” Tristan said. “The inevitability that we will descend into chaos and dust.”

“Ambition was such a dirty word, so tainted, but she had it. She was enslaved by it. There was so much ego to the concept of fate, but she needed to cling to it. She needed to believe she was meant for enormity; that the fulfillment of a destiny could make for the privilege of salvation, even if it didn't feel that way right now.”

“More interesting than the game is always the players, you know.”

“There is a difference between what we are capable of and how we choose to use it.”

“There is nothing so destructive as thought, and especially not one that can never be rescinded.”

"He's not a goddess. But fuck me, he's a god."

“I think the closest thing I’ve ever felt to religion is when I’m with you.” “And there's something gold about her.” "Draco's like... snow," said Hermione quietly, her gaze absent and distracted. "It's cold and cruel to begin with, but it's somehow beautiful, and you miss it when it's not there. And if you hold it in your hands close enough and long enough, it changes. It melts." "I'm going to take care of you. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you. You don't have to be lonely. Because you are mine" “Hermione, I’m fucking begging you.” His unswollen eye is glassy in the partial light of her wand. Bloodshot. Crazed. “I’m begging you. Please.” He squeezes her arm, and for the briefest of seconds, his thumb swipes across her skin — a caress. “Please. Go.” He didn’t care. He didn’t care whether anyone survived the war but her. They could all die, and he wouldn’t care. She felt like a prey who had willingly walked into a trap. But could she really help herself? No. Not when being caged by him felt like coming home. She'd gladly walk into all of his traps. Because while Draco Malfoy is nothing to the world, he...he is everything to her. Swallowing her fear — swallowing her pride — she meets his eyes again the way one meets an enemy on the battlefield. “I love you.” "You honestly think that I wouldn't do or say anything for her? You've seen the memories. You've heard the things I've said to her. You should know very well by now that I would bleed this whole world dry for Hermione Granger." “I’d die for you, I would. But I’d kill for him.” Her voice trembles as she continues to wreck me. "When you ask me why I've done the things I have, I want to be able to say it's because I love you." I feel my pulse in my ribs, beating to get out. "That everything has been for you. It's never been about the 'right thing to do.'" She laughs at herself. "It's because I love you." I'd never imagined her saying it. Never knew what it would sound like from her lips, with that voice that tortured me in my dreams, singing to me in the mornings as I gripped myself, screaming and crying in my nightmares. It's an exquisite sound. Like the first time you hear a song that you'll come to play on repeat. “There exists no world, or war, or sky, or bed. Only this place of balance between nowhere and him, and the way he has just made her feel. There was only that now.” "...Doesn't change the fact that when Draco loves someone, they become his entire world. You'll never be loved by anyone the way you'll be loved by Draco Malfoy." "I've loved her a lot longer than you have. I want to make sure we're both clear on what loving her means." “I’m going to take care of you. I swear, I’m always going to take care of you.” “Don’t die, Granger. I might miss you,” I wonder how much more I can give her before there's nothing left of me. “Can’t forget you’re in here” he mumbled, pulling her hand up to his head feeling her fingers soft gently through his blond locks. “And in here” he pulled her other hand to press up against his chest. “Not even obliviate could make me forget you” "A j-joke?" he whispered. "Here's one: Th-there were three Slytherins...Three f-fucked up Slytherins. The first f-fell in love with...with the Gryffindor's P-Princess and became g-good. The second fell in l-love with Ravenclaw's An-Angel and became good, t-too. The third...the third did...n-nothing...b-but...but he tried..." "What do you mean everything you've ever done? You sound like you've known me for years, Draco, and I don't—" Hermione cut herself off, her lips parting as she slumped backward. "You know me?" Draco stared at her, unmoving. "Does your head hurt?" Hermione swallowed and found her mouth was already dry. "You've always known me." "I've always loved you, too." Tears formed in her eyes. "You're Scorpius' father, aren't you?" “Make no mistake," he growls, and he has the nerve to nuzzle her cheek as he says it – a threat wrapped in affection. "If you get yourself taken away from me, I will kill you. Do you understand?" She swallows a heaving breath by mistake. “I will bring you back from the brink of death if I have to, and then I will fucking kill you. Just so I can do it myself." “Be fucking selfish, Granger. I would throw the world at your feet.” “Take it. Take my heart, and take the remainder of my soul as well. You can even filet my heart and crush my soul if you wish. It doesn’t matter, since in actuality, they’ve probably been already yours to break for a very long time.” "He was toxic like venom, yet beautiful like rain" “He was her everything, the sun to her moon, the light to her dark, the air in her lungs that she needed to survive, to thrive.” “Shakespeare will roll in his grave wishing he wrote about you.” “You’re like a rose in a graveyard.” "Just be gentle with me, granger," he breathed, reeling her in with her own name, wielded like a different kind of weapon. "you've got me on the gallows here." he let the curl fall from his fingers. "but i'll be damned if you're not the most beautiful executioner i've ever seen." “I didn’t dare hope that any woman...let alone you, would want to tether themselves to a soul such as mine.” “If you die, i will personally raze the entire order. that is not a promise, its a threat” "It was the right thing to do" “It was a way to spend 3 more minutes with you.” "This life or any other, you'd have me." He'd kissed her fingers slowly, pulling her towards him again. "This life or another, you won't be alone." "You... are more valuable to me in this moment than the most prized cut of gold in the universe" “I would rather run with you than walk alone.” “if the moon smiled, she would resemble you. you leave the same impression of something beautiful.” “He’d been falling the entire time. So fast he had caught on fire. Was burning up with his undying passion and desire for her. Flames flying out, raging like Feindfyre.” “He had almost forgotten what oxygen was when she was near. He didn't care, he’d happily stop breathing if it meant she was by his side the entire time. She was a different kind of air” She was never golden to him. To him, she was every color that could ever exist. Pinks and purples and red and yellows, and fucking periwinkle. “Taste a forbidden fruit, then be damned to crave it forever.” “Malfoy always comes for me.” “I pull the grate open for her, and she looks up at me, like she’s suprised. does no one pull doors open for her? she’s hermione fucking granger.” "I should have known the moment I looked into your eyes, I should have known that I would never win against you."

He had sucked out the agony and inhaled it for himself. Like a star, he was glittering and ice-cold from afar, but when the space was bridged, the heat of him was endless. Maybe it's not about whether your soul is complete on its own or not. Maybe it just matters that a soulmate is someone who follows you in all your lives. When he looked at her, he took his time, absorbing her. It wasn't the practiced glance of an old friend. It was the look of an artist, a scholar - he was studying her, memorizing her. And maybe she was art in his eyes. “I’m so in love with you it makes me burn” Piercing grey eyes looked up from the text, spearing straight through her. Oceans of silent intention reflect in their cold depths. But there was little be could do about it now. His interest in her was embedded into his system and crawling in his veins, making his heart throb faster when she was close enough to inhale. When once it had felt like an infection, it now felt like brandy; warm and pleasant. She is a different kind of war. The kind you want to win. The kind you want to come home for.

“I’ll make sure the world remembers us. Your name will be in the stars. It will touch the sun and shine upon the whole world as a memento.”

“You have the whole world at your feet.

This life is yours for the taking. Find what you want and take it for the both of us.

I’ll be rooting for you.”

Her name was both question and answer. His salvation and his ruin. It left his mouth on an exhale and though he barely achieved a whisper, it was as if he’d shouted, shattering the silence of her moonlit hall.

"I could write poetry about you, but It'd never be good enough.”

“When you ask me why I've done the things I have, I want to be able to say it's because I love you. That everything has been for you. It's never been about the right thing to do."

“Sometimes I have to act without your approval to do what's best for my family! All four of us!"

He may have been the moon, but he was by far Hermione's light, burning brightly the darkness that she was surrounded in.

Their relationship-whatever was and wherever it was headed-felt like some cruel form of irony. It was as though they were the reverse of each other. Yin and yang. They circled inexorably. Somehow the war had tied them together.

“He said I was the girl he was going to marry."

"And let her ruin me. She can ruin me. I don't fucking care."

There is a sad, scared part of her that wishes she could just stay with the safety she feels in his arms. That she can forget the world and it can forget her.

I dare to look down at her, and she's staring at me like I've given her the moon.

Little did he know, though, that he was the glorious, golden sun and she but a modest, irreparably fucked planet in his outer rim.

“tell me a secret. a nice one.”

Anything for our Moony.”

“I just can’t not have you.”

“you drew stars around my scars but now i’m bleeding”

Fate whispers to the warrior

“You cannot withstand the storm”

and the warrior whispers back-

“I am the storm”

“you are magic”

"you were my little bit of magic"

“losing yourself in drink or drugs was nothing compared to losing yourself in him"
